A Level English Literature:
A strong foundation for progression and success

Get the qualifications you need from home study in your spare time

A Levels are widely recognised as the gold standard of the British education system and our abilities, even in later life, are still measured against it.

If, for whatever reason, you did not achieve the A Level results you know you were capable of, here is the chance to put matters right. The good news is that distance learning students are amongst the most successful candidates at A Level.

The DCA Home Learning course is designed to encourage you to develop interest and enjoyment in literary study, through reading widely and critically. The AS provides a platform from which you may move to deepen and widen your studies at A Level and the A2 builds on the foundation offered by AS studies. The course encourages you, as a student of English Literature to develop as an autonomous critic of literary texts by reading across centuries, styles of writing, genres and gender, and, at A2, through contact with an extensive range of views about texts and how to read them. At the heart of the A Level specification is the synoptic unit, ‘Reading for Meaning’, where you can demonstrate the skills, knowledge and understanding which have been developed through this wide and close reading. Wider reading should encompass the great traditions of English Literature as well as the new. It may include literature in English from outside the United Kingdom as well as literature in translation, non-fiction as well as fiction.
