Most artists establish themselves by working on their own and selling their artwork in order to attract an income for themselves. Artists work may also be sold through art shops and galleries.
Whilst establishing themselves as artists, many new artists have other part time work that they do whilst they are working on their portfolios. Typical other work that artists do may include working in areas such as art galleries, managing projects and community art work.
Artists often find valuable work as ‘resident’ artists working within a hospital, old folks home or a prison, where they may run workshops for the patients as part of their therapy.
